I have a few and I'm looking for more. They were the "poor mans decoy" back in the 1940's and 50's. I used some when I started duck hunting. They did not hold up very well. Do you have any you want to part with? Bob.
I have some decoys that i was given 40 years ago that i have never been able to find any information on them. They have a carved wood head, attached to a sewn canvas body that appears to have been dipped in wax to seal the body. That is after they were painted. They are flat bottomed with no...
A fun thing that I do is make up recreations of the Extinct Labrador Duck with parts from 4-5 different birds. More of a faux antique but something pretty cool of our countries only extinct species of waterfowl. Eric
I am looking for info on a decoy maker from Saginaw Bay Mi. I have six of them I bought for $200. they were made in the 30's 40's
This past March I ran across a bird I had always dreamed of getting, an Extinct Heath Hen. A type of prairie chicken from the east coast that went extinct in 1932. So while not something that was passed down to me, will certainly be passed down after me. I made a little website with info,...
I got this BWT 7 or 8 yrs ago for x mas any info on it would be great. I am told it is one of the few decoys that was saved after everything went to plastic. My uncle found it with a couple others in the back store room of my Grandpas Drug store in the mid 70's.
I got these at an estate sale in Olympia, Washington, and was wondering if anyone could tell me anything about them.
Here is a mallard that I got for christmas a couple yrs ago. same story as the BWT. Any info in age, brand and so on would be great!!
Here's a link to some pics I posted in the MN forum... ...In particularl I'm interested in the blubill decoy I posted and asked whether or not if anyone knew if it was a production decoy. I'm hoping someone here might have some more info for me on it. Thanks. ...
Who should I contact to have a modest collection appraised? Our collection isn't too terribly large, but several decoys have risen in value. Old makers include Mason, Dodge, and Stevens. I'm particularly interested in the Stevens, as we have an early Bluebill in excellent shape. We have...
Was hoping you could give me some sort of value on this Blue bill that was carved in the 20's and hunted on the Menomonee River of Michigan's Upper Peninsula. It is cork topped over wood with a lead strip of weight running the length of the keel.
Who's all going to be at the Westlake Show? RAS
I dont really know what im suppose to do since this forum is new but can you tell me about these old herters i have....
I came home one night after work to carve on some birds I had sitting on my bench and this fellow was sitting right in my work area. None of my family has fessed up to dropping him off there or any of my friends that I know will fess up to the gift. Dark cork bodied, bottom boarded with poured...
I never did get the full story behind this one. Head is jointed to the body, with no keel. Just two lead weights spaced near the back of the bottom. Hoping maybe you could give me some insight and a value for insurance purposes.
Here is a decoy that was found in a marsh here in Mathews co. Virginia way back in 1960 -1969 by my dad . On the botton of it on the lead it has the letters W A & S the A is inside the W and the S is above the other two . A man saw it one day while at the house doing some work and wanted to...
I was hoping I could get a little info on this decoy. I was at an antique store with my girlfriend and I was drooling over a drake mason canvasback two winters ago and then that summer she suprised me by getting the decoy...only it was the wrong one. We were at my parent's cabin for an extended...
Evening folks. My passion for old decoys and helping people his a high today. I wanted to share a great day with you all. I wondered around Belleville and Prince Edward County Ontario, today following up on a few requests for home visitis. I help dozens of people each day with their old...
Here is one with a "TON" of history. Not much to look at, I think it is an old Oscar Qwam factory decoy, cork and wood. But this particular decoy used to float the famed waters of Beaver Dam MS,,, hunted over by none other than Nash Buckingham himself. The decoy along with others in a bag was...
